Lake Effects Photography Show On Now

Baillie’s has some great photography hanging in the gallery from now until December 24th.  The show features three local photographers who demonstrate the effect of living by Lake Huron in their artistic vision.  Sarah Chisholm grew up by Lake Huron in an extended family of artists.  Her painterly vision is evident in her photographs and digital art. Derek Houston grew up surrounded by the sea in the Scottish Isles, but is now enjoying life on Lake Huron.  Derek captures the moods of the Lake during the off season, when the tourists are gone, but there is still much to see and admire.  Janette Baillie is drawn to colour.  Her stunning sunsets and beach scenes capture the beauty of the Lake Huron shoreline.

Join us for this wonderful show, now until December 24th!lake effects show with border

Grand Bend Calendars

As many of you know, owner Glen Baillie is a big fan of music.  Last year, he organized the Summer Sunset Sounds concerts, a series of free concerts on the beach in Grand Bend.  The concerts were enjoyed by locals and visitors to Grand Bend, and the musicians all enjoyed playing on an open air stage as the sun went down on another perfect summer day.  Glen is working with other community leaders to bring the music back to the Sunset stage in the summer of 2015.

To help raise funds, Baillie’s has created a calendar featuring 13 photos of beautiful Grand Bend in all four seasons.  Calendars are priced at $15 with all profits going toward next year’s concert series.  All the photography in the calendar has been donated by Janette Baillie.  These calendars make a great gift for anyone who appreciates the beauty of Grand Bend.  Each of the 13 photos can also be ordered as fine art prints which can be framed for yourself or as a gift.  The calendars are for sale at Baillie’s, but if you can’t come in person to purchase your calendar, we are offering to mail it to you, or to a gift recipient.  Just let us know where you want us to send it.

Thanks in advance for your support for this project.  Hope to see you on the beach in Grand Bend next summer, enjoying the free concerts!

Clearance Sale and Christmas Comes Early

We had a bit of damage to our store this summer; water came in and the floor heaved. Before we can replace the floor, we need to move all the art and related inventory. It is better to sell it than store it, so all original art is 25% off, and all prints and posters are 50% to 75% off.
Just so you get the idea, we are also having a no tax sale on the weekend of November 7th,8th, and 9th, as part of Christmas Comes Early in Grand Bend. All custom framing, ready made frames, photo printing, and even the already discounted art is included. Artists include Elisabeth Carr, Barb McKnight, Laura Wright, Martin Zimmer, and Janette Baillie.

Arts, Eats and Beats: Grand Bend and area Studio Tour

Baillie’s Picture Framing has always been a strong promoter of the arts in our community. Several years ago, we organized a spring studio tour, an event that allowed visual artists to open up their studios to visitors and show their latest work. Since then, it has grown to include music and the culinary arts, resulting in a renaming to “Arts, Eats and Beats.”
This year, the event takes place on May 2nd, 3rd and 4th, 2014. Friday night will feature a brand new “Grub Crawl” during which participating restaurants will offer tapas style culinary creations, matched with wine or other drinks. Many of the locations will feature live musicians, including Grand Bend’s own Micheal Vanhevel, a rising star with a crooner voice likened to Bobby Darrin. On Saturday night, The Gables will present legendary blues singer Chuck Jackson, an event to support the Grand Bend Arts Centre. So much more to see and do – check out the full schedule at http://www.grandbendstudiotour.com or drop into Baillie’s or the Grand Bend Welcome Centre for a printed brochure and map.

Baillie’s is very pleased to be hosting three very talented artists during the studio tour: Laura L Wright, Barbara McKnight and Janette Baillie.

Laura Wright was born and raised in Southwestern Ontario in the Ingersoll area. Her formal art education has included studies at H.B. Beal Secondary School, London, under Herb Ariss; York University, Toronto; and Lambton College, Sarnia.

Laura has worked in a variety of media including pottery and soapstone, but concentrates at present on two-dimensional works in collage, coloured pencil, pastel and acrylic. Recent works include explorations into the effects achieved by mixing and layering different materials and media.
Come and meet Laura and view some of her newest work.

Barbara McKnight has retired to the shores of Lake Huron to enjoy the beautiful landscape, flora and fauna on her many excursions into the countryside. The present collection (in oils) is described as “intimate tablescapes” using color and texture to excite our senses and lift our spirits. Her collections contain paintings in watercolor, acrylic and oils. View Barbara’s beautiful paintings at Baillie’s on May 3rd and 4th.

She strives to convey a particular mood using light and colour. Her portfolio reflects her interest in nature and traveling.
